Dr. Allan Pantuck is the director of translational research of the UCLA Kidney Cancer Program and has been an active member of the UCLA Kidney Cancer Program team since 1999. He is an associate professor of urology in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and in the spring of 2007 was appointed as the director of GU oncology at the UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC). Dr. Pantuck's appointment at the JCCC enhances the UCLA Kidney Cancer Program and strengthens and unifies the collaborative relationship between the UCLA Kidney Cancer Program and the JCCC.

In 2002, Dr. Pantuck completed a three-year urologic oncology fellowship under the direction of Dr. Arie Belldegrun at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, doing basic research in gene and immune therapy of GU cancers, with support from a National Institutes of Health K12 Award. In 2002, Dr. Pantuck was awarded a K23 grant from the National Institutes of Health entitled "Genetic and Molecular Characterization of Kidney Cancer." With this grant, his lab is studying molecular and genetic determinants of immunotherapy response in advanced RCC. In addition, his lab collaborates extensively with other research programs, including Harvard University, University of Rennes, and University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Pantuck has published extensively in the area of urologic cancers, with nearly 150 of his basic and clinical research manuscripts being published in major peer-reviewed medical publications and journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Journal of Urology. He has presented his research at national cancer conferences, including the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Urological Association, Society of Urological Oncology and the Society for Biologic Therapy. Dr. Pantuck also lectures internationally, with recent presentations given at the Irish Society of Surgical Oncology, National Taiwan University, the Hong Kong Urological Society and the Korean Urological Oncology Society.

Dr. Pantuck's primary focus has been devoted to translational research in genitourinary (GU) oncology, such as nutrition and chemoprevention, a NIH funded research study of green tea for preventing bladder cancer and the use of pomegranate juice as a treatment for prostate cancer. He is currently the UCLA principal investigator of numerous clinical trials for NIH-funded, investigator initiated, and industry sponsored clinical trials. He is a member on the UCLA Medical Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Scientific Peer Review and Data and Safety Monitoring Committees of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Pantuck is also a member on the GU committee of the Southwest Oncology Group and has served in an advisory capacity to develop future GU oncology clinical trials for both the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group.

Dr. Pantuck earned his Master of Science degree in clinical research from UCLA School of Medicine; his Medical Degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in New Jersey; and a his Bachelors Degree from Columbia University. He completed his residency in general surgery and urology residencies at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a fellowship in urologic oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Pantuck is a member of numerous professional societies, and serves on the editorial boards and as a reviewer for numerous medical and scientific journals.
